Shrek and Fiona have the monster ugly looking but they have the kindest heart in this world. They would fight for each other. Their love story is great as us and even better. They would fight for their friends, Donkey and Puss in boots. They see friendship as one of the most important things in the world. On the other hand, the real monster may not have the devilish look. It is the evil heart they have shows the evilness. They will betray on anybody even their families and friends. There are no real love and trust for them. And it is so easy for them to trick people with their humanized trustable look. But they can never be the real king and princess.
Shrek he is a green ogre, which is large head, strong body and monstrous look. They often depicted in fairy-tales. Shrek he likes living alone in his own swap peacefully. But he is forced to go battle due to lots fairytale beings come to his swap. In order to get back his own privacy and quiet swap, he has been ordered to complete hard mission, which is to prevent the princess Fiona from marring the evil Lord Farquaad. Due to the monster appearance of Shrek, it’s hard to link him as a hero. As usual, Prince is always the character who is going to save Princess form danger. It turns out to be we cannot judge people just according to their outlook. Even Shrek looks like a monster with wired personalities, but he has a beautiful and pure heart. His courage and brave for fighting with evil and finally saves Princess Fiona should consider him as a truly hero indeed.

I don't really believe that Shrek, nor Fiona, is a monster. Although they both have the appearance of someone who might be scary, I think they are actually quite nice and kind-hearted. I'd have to say that Lord Farquaad is a more monstrous character in the Shrek movies. This is mostly because of the awful things he says and does throughout the movies. To see the musical version of Shrek, Fiona, and even Lord Farquaad, go to this website http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6eibFYnlF4.
ReplyDeleteIt is true that people may judge other's appearance to their inner heart. In the study of Zhouyi, one of the most authorized book in China, the author believes that we can analyze people's inner heart, their behaviors and even their future by looking at their outlook. For centuries, there is a small amount of people still believe in this ancient myth. Similar to the Bible, most people believe in Creation rather than Evolution discovered by Darwin. As we all know that there are still many mysteries could not be solved in scientific method.
ReplyDeleteHowever, we can not judge people's appearance with a glance and give a conclusion that tells us he is good or bad. God treats everyone equally. Though, some people have a terrible look, they have the kindest heart. Vice versa, those people who has a beautiful face does not mean they have a purify heart as those "Shreks" with the kindest heart.
I really agree with the opinion that monsters should be defined by their inner heart but not the appearance. Like Shrek and Fiona, they have the sense of justice and they have love in their hearts. They treasure the friendship. Billion and billion people are fascinated by their charming characteristics, even their appearance are a little bit scary. I think the story tells us a very simple truth which is always ignored by the people that we should know someone from their heart but not the appearance. People always make the mistake that get closer to people who are good looking but keep apart with the people who are not. So don’t judge people from their appearance.
ReplyDeleteShrek is a perfect testament to the phrase "don't judge a book by its cover." Fiona was always ashamed of turning into an ogre because it made her appear ugly, but when she met Shrek and adventured with donkey, she realized that it's what's on the inside that makes you a monster or not. Even a good looking (albeit comically short) Lord Farquaad can be terribly evil, and an ugly ogre like Shrek can be the hero. This story reminds everyone what really separates monsters from heroes - heart.
ReplyDeleteI think that is one of the main lessons the movie Shrek is trying to say. You cannot judge anyone by their outter appearance, but but by their inner. Shrek was always considered a monster and by people telling him this he always acted like one. But once someone actually took the time to get to know who Shrek was he became who he really was which wasnt a monster, but a hero.
ReplyDeleteShrek is completely misjudged throughout the movie. I do believe he is thought of as a monster because of his physical appearence, and the fact that he lives by himself in a swamp hinders his social skills. With an appearance of an ogre and the misunderstood personality, who would not label Shrek as a monster? Lord Farquaad is the "ideal" prince in the movie, even though he himself does not have the normal stature of a typical prince. Lord Farquaad is much shorter than an ideal prince and I think it is interesting that the writers did not make him the ideal prince.
ReplyDeleteI believe that mosters only being monstrous in appearance is a common theme for many novels and movies. Shrek and Fiona are both large, green, unattractive, and are alone in the world until they find each other. This themetells us that even the seemingly unattractive people have someone out there. It is common for people to feel as though there is no one out there who looks like them or has any of the same interests, but "Shrek" is a story in which those people find there other person and are no longer alone in the world. Also, Shrek and Fiona both go out of their way to help others when Lord Farquaad begins to oppress the fairytales. They sacrifice themselves to right the wrongs done to everyone, even though it is not their problem or duty. Self-sacrifice is the greatest form of kindess and friendship and only a good-hearted person would do. So, unattractiveness does not indicate monstrosity.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the comments that Shrek and Fiona certainly may appear as monsters, but are from from it. They are both very kind people, and like Quasimodo are judged by their appearances until you get to really know them. Lord Farquaad is the monster in this film and certainly does not have the same monstrous appearance, but is unusually short. So, once again there is a lesson to be learned about not making a judgment about someone or even a fictional character until you really get to know them.
ReplyDeleteStandard moral of Don't-Judge-a-Book-By-it's-Cover. I mean, I know I got that shoved down my throat in my Saturday morning cartoons. If I met an ogre in person, even a kind one, I seriously doubt I would take time between running and screaming to wonder if they've really got a heart of gold. Like Lisa and Tracy said, Shrek and Fiona are more like heroes instead of monsters, and I agree with that. However, I still wouldn't want to meet an ogre in a dark alley, if you get what I'm saying.
ReplyDeleteOgre's are like onions; they have layers...this exists on a both a physical and emotions. in my personal opinion, this makes them unmonsterous
ReplyDeleteI concur with Ryan's idea that Shrek and Fiona should be identified as monsters because of their physical appearance. However, despite their loathsome features, Shrek and Fiona are friendly and altruist to everyone else in the movie. In my opinion, monsters are not necessary to be evil, which can be proven by other literature figures, such as Frankenstein’s creature before he was assaulted by the family in the cottage. Thus, Shrek is a friendly, ethnic monster.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Shrek would be considered as a monster by most people, simply because of his outter appearance. He definitely doesn't look human, but somehow deformed, which is probably what makes people judge. But even though he looks that inhuman, kids would like him after having seen him on a picture, as his facial expressions mirror his character, which is doubtless a good one! So I believe Shrek is the best example for that someone looking as amonster from the outside does not always have to be one from the inside!
ReplyDeleteShrek and Fiona do look like monsters but just because they look the part doesn’t mean they act like it. Shrek and Fiona are both very kind and loyal to their friends. They both are big and green and live in a swam but they are happy and they remind you of just normal people trying to live their lives. This example just shows that you can't always judge a book by it's cover.
ReplyDeletePersonally I do not believe that Shrek and Fiona do look like monsters but believe that they could never do any harm to anyone. Yes they are big, green and have a really weird appearance but they live like normal people. They are in love with each other and will take care of each other for forever. They are another case were you can't judge a book by it's cover. They look scary but on the inside they are just as nice as could be. So you have to get to know them before you judge them.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Sherk was first feard by all of the villagers but because of his kind heart he is now loved by all. His princess wife Fiona is also in the same boat. I don't think that Disney intended for the pair to be seen as monsters, I think the real reason is to teach children to not judge a book by its cover plain and simple. Although we also teach children to not talk to strangers which makes them think anyone coming towards them that they dont know could be a potential rapist which is judging a book by its cover.
ReplyDeleteI think Sherk can be defined as a monster but I believe that most people never regard him as a demon in mind. Shrek and his girlfriend provide people a modern fairy tale and use type of cartoon to describe the revelation of marriage, love and friendship. It is not only to make children laugh but reflects complicated issues and provides solutions for adult. So this is why sherk can be the popular movie in market.
